2012 Certified Brazil Trade Fair will present greater diversity in sustainable experiences of production chains

In addition to conferences and exhibition of products with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) socioenvironmental certification, the fifth edition of this event will also include companies and products that have received SAN (Sustainable Agriculture Network) certification

November, 2011 – During the period April 10 – 12 the city of São Paulo will host the 5th edition of the Certified Brazil Trade Fair, which brings together business leaders, experts and corporations from all over the world that are committed to sustainability and socioenvironmental certification. In order to take into account the increasing complexity of production chains, this edition of Certified Brazil is expanding its scope to include experiences that may contribute to a more sustainable production chain. The Certified Brazil Trade Fair is a joint initiative of Imaflora, Amigos da Terra - Amazônia Brasileira, Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Rainforest Alliance. WR São Paulo is organizing this event.

The first edition of the Certified Brazil Trade Fair was organized in 2004 and focused on the forest sector. It promoted discussions on sustainability and socioenvironmental certification of products from responsible companies, as an instrument to ensure their sustainable origin. The fourth edition, organized in 2010, had 45 exhibitors and almost 5,000 visitors. Due to the growing importance of the agribusiness sector in Brazil, it also included certified agricultural companies. Therefore, the trade fair had forest products certified by FSC and agricultural products certified by SAN.

The coming edition of the Certified Brazil Trade Fair will have a wider scope in comparison with previous editions. It will carry a new signature - Innovation and Sustainability in Business – with the purpose of including people and companies committed to sustainability and certification. “A supermarket that sells certified products, or a bank that uses certification as a criterion for approving credit, are important players in the sustainability of production chains and, therefore, they become part of this new scope” says Maurício Voivodic, Imaflora’s Executive Secretary, one of the organizations responsible for the trade fair. Another new feature is related to the tasting of certified foods, with special dishes prepared on the spot using certified products.

The information presented in the previous paragraphs indicates that the 5th Certified Brazil Trade Fair will bring a wealth of experiences that will contribute to more sustainable production chains. As stated by Rita Mazzotti, WR São Paulo Director - the company in charge of organizing the trade fair - “This is an important initiative for Brazil. Due to its plentiful natural resources and rich diversity, our country plays a decisive role on the world market of certified products and, for this reason, it must contribute to the conservation of environmental assets of the entire world for future generations”.
